Direct from France, a rare and gorgeous PAIR of 19th century antique French majolica jardinières or cache pots!

This unique and quite whimsical design features colorful insects playing various musical instruments, individually modeled in relief and meticulously hand painted in various colours including brown, gray, yellow and green against a sof aqua background.

The musical insects are surrounded by tall grasses, leaves and flowering plants, creating charming garden scenes that continue around each jardinière. Beautifully detailed throughout, the wonderfully unusual subject gives this matched pair exceptional character.

Each jardinière rests on a substantial brown scroll base with colorful foliage extending around the body, while rich red glazed interiors provide a striking contrast to the softer exterior palette. The whimsical musical insect figures are of the Onnaing style, circa 1880.
