Antique Majolica Vase Bowl Dolphin Nautilus Shell English Royal Worcester c1870
Antique Majolica Vase Bowl Dolphin Nautilus Shell English Royal Worcester c1870.
Direct from England, a rare antique Royal Worcester majolica vase or bowl featuring a sculptural nautilus shell supported by a stylized dolphin, reflecting the Renaissance Revival taste of the Victorian period.
The large nautilus shaped shell is richly decorated in shades of cream, green, brown and blue, with deeply modeled ribs, scrolls and naturalistic detailing. A vivid deep red glazed interior provides dramatic contrast with the exterior.
Beneath the shell, the Renaissance-style dolphin curves upward as both a structural and decorative support, with detailed scales, fins and an expressive head. The composition rises from a molded square base decorated with aquatic foliage and shell motifs.
The underside bears an impressed mark consistent with Royal Worcester, along with the impressed model number 160. Finely crafted and richly glazed by craftsmen of the period, circa 1870.
Dimensions: 8” H x 8” W x 5” D.
