Antique Majolica Bird Planter Cache Pot Jardinière Cobalt Blue Wasmuël c1890.

Direct from Europe, a striking antique majolica cache pot or jardinière by Wasmuël, featuring colorful birds in high relief against a rich cobalt blue ground.

The rounded body is decorated on both sides with large molded birds perched among leafy branches, their plumage hand painted in shades of blue, brown, cream and green. Sculptural side handles and a deeply molded border add further dimension to the design.

A bright turquoise glazed interior provides beautiful contrast with the cobalt exterior, while the shaped base rests on three molded feet.

The underside bears a small hand-painted blue mark associated with Wasmuël production. Wasmuël was closely connected to the celebrated Onnaing pottery, with members of the same pottery families directing both potteries during the 19th century. A fine example of late 19th century European majolica, circa 1890.
