Antique French Chest of Drawers Semainier Louis XVI White Marble Mahogany c1900.

Direct from France, a beautiful antique Louis XVI semainier chest of drawers with classic French styling and elegant proportions.

Always elegant and lovely, a French “semainier” takes its name from the French word “semaine” meaning “week”.  These chests are typically tall and narrow, with seven drawers, designed one for each day of the week.

The semainier features a beautiful white marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery.  Below the marble are seven full-width drawers each fitted with individual locks and brass keyhole escutcheons.

The mahogany case is finished with paneled sides and fluted corner posts that continue into tapered fluted legs with brass sabots.

The seven dovetailed drawers provide generous storage while maintaining the tall, narrow profile characteristic of the classic Louis XVI semainier.  Well built by craftsmen of the period, circa 1900.

Measurements:  55.25” Height x 27” Width x 15.75” Depth.
