19th century French Carved Walnut Cabinet Bar Renaissance Wine Server Baroque
19th century French Carved Walnut Cabinet Bar Renaissance Wine Server Baroque.
Direct from Europe, a highly carved antique cabinet, with a drop down back, which perfectly adapts for a wine/liquor cabinet! However, the story here should really be all about the carvings…
Upper cabinet double doors each have carved panels featuring elaborate scenes of male and female Roman characters in period dress, with a tree of life to the background. Left panel also has a small child with fruit, right panel also includes a farm animal, the man playing a horn, and a child reading from a book (various possible interpretations)!
Carved fruit and floral banding to either side of the doors, with lavish carved treatments below.
Open carved lower apron with center shell cartouche surrounded by florals and scrolls. All four legs have a bit of a trumpet shape, with carved uppers, crosshatch centres and carved block lowers. Stunning cross stretchers surmounted with center finial.
And of course, that back panel that opens down for access from either side. Lovely, aged patina, well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890.
