19th century French Carved Walnut Hall Bench Breton Brittany Pew Renaissance.
Direct from Brittany, France, an ornately hand carved antique French hall bench, most probably a commissioned piece, circa 1890.
Highly carved back features dimensional carved Breton figures flanking a carved panel of floral filled urn with carved creatures to either side.
Middle panel has dimensional carved cherubs flanking the dual panels having carved male/female Breton characters amidst carved scrolls and foliate.
Carved sides continue down both sides with large lower drop finials and Brittany spindles at the lower back.
Sweeping arms supported by claw feet and terminate with detailed carved dog heads!!
Lower carved panels to the front; lift top opens to interior storage.
Heavy, solid, well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890.
Measurements: 69” ht. x 39” x 21”. 21.5”seat ht. Inside storage, 18” ht. x 27” x 18”.
