Antique French Sofa Table Writing Desk Barley Twist Carved Renaissance Tapestry.

Direct from France, a highly carved antique side table or writing desk circa 1880.  The table is ornately carved on all side, perfect to ‘float’ in the middle of any room.  The carvings include demilune designs on the beveled edge table top and elaborate raised scrolls and foliate on the scalloped apron.

Thick, barley twist legs support the table, with elaborately turned stretchers, cross stretchers, and dual large up-finials.

The table top features hand done needlepoint tapestry, with stylized floral and heraldic motifs including mythical animals and a coat-of-arms style centerpiece.  Table includes a glass top to cover tapestry and brass tack trim.

Solid walnut, with construction and design that reflects the refined taste of the Victorian Gothic Revival period, c1880.

Measurements:  29” ht.  x 34.5” x 24.5”.   Inset needlepoint area, 29.25” x 18.75”.
