19th century French Carved Oak Dolphin Library Table Desk Renaissance Gothic
19th century French Carved Oak Dolphin Library Table Desk Renaissance Gothic.
Direct from France, an elegant antique French carved library table or "bureau plat" desk, commonly referred to as a “dolphin" table, so called for the ornately carved "dolphin" feet.
A great size for this style, perfect for a writing desk or sofa table…wonderfully versatile for use in today's home!!
Incredible detailed carving, captivating features that include ornate, relief carved lion masks on the canted corners with large, carved gothic drop finials and Black Forest carvings below. Fancy carved French gadrooning on the wide frieze, with a full length dovetailed drawer to the front.
Dual legs on each side, and hand carved acanthus bulbous “cup and cover” shape to the legs. Renaissance flair, with detailed, carved mythical “dolphin” sea creature feet. Large carved stretcher provides stability and support.
Carved on all sides, perfect for placement anywhere in a room because there's not a "back side". Well built by craftsmen of the period, c1880.
