Direct from the Brittany region of France, another beautiful antique bookcase or cabinet, with gorgeous hand carvings throughout.

This cabinet’s tall, yet petite and slender profile, is a perfect fit for so many places throughout your home, and its design allows for maximum display and storage, with adjustable shelving behind the glass and carved door.

The style and design are true to the Celtic roots of the Brittany region of France, which was heavily dependent on fishing and maritime, so traditionally, the hand carvings are noted for spindled ship’s wheels…as found here in an elaborate design on the lower door panel as well as the open upper gallery.

More Breton features include carved circular designs on the beveled edges and the down full length of the cabinet front; the lower cabinet also features carvings across the scalloped apron and feet.  Always a sign of quality, the carvings AND the upper open spindle are continued on both sides of the cabinet.

Traditionally antique furniture from the Brittany region of France had a dark finish and was frequently carved from oak or chestnut wood. This cabinet is also well built by craftsmen of the period, c1900.

Measurements:  58.75” ht.  x 21” x 15.5”.  Adjustable shelves are 18” x 12”.
