Antique French Altar Lecturn Gothic Bible Box Podium Sacristy Cabinet Carved Oak
Direct from France, an exquisitely hand-carved 19th century French ecclesiastical cabinet that features deeply sculpted Gothic and Renaissance Revival details. The large front door panel is adorned with a hand carved cross, foliage and laurels--classic Christian symbols of faith and victory.
Full length barley twist oak columns flank the door, adding bold architectural presence, with the top surmounted by an ornate carved crest with scrolling acanthus leaves. Large hand carved beveled edges to the slant top and framing the door.
The cabinet’s slant-front design suggests it may have been used as a lectern, confessional cabinet or sacristy piece. A rich patina and intricate craftsmanship make this a striking devotional or decorative statement for collectors and designers alike. Solid oak, well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890.
Measurements: 39.5” ht. x 21.5” x 13.5”. Height to top of cabinet is 32.5”. Length of raised book ledge is 18.75”.
