PAIR Set Antique French Arm Chair Dining Fireside Barley Twist Horse Hunt Hounds.
Direct from France, a stunning PAIR of antique French armchairs with quite a stately presence, definitely in the “fireside” or “throne” category!
Their majestic Renaissance Revival style includes heavily carved backs, arms, and legs; the upper crown is open carved with center cartouche flanked by mythical creatures, set amidst carved florals and scrolling. Full length barley twist posts with upper carved blocks and large ornate finials flank the chair back.
Each arm is a large, carved open mouth creature resting upon barley twist supports. The lower chair also features barley twist on all four legs, on both lower stretchers and all the cross stretchers.
The custom upholstery has depictions of the “hunt” with riders on horseback surrounded by hounds, with French castle and forest in the background; the upholstery is in excellent condition.
Excellent antique condition well built and hand carved by craftsmen of the period, circa late 19th century.
