Antique French Carved Walnut Fireside Dining Arm Chair Tapestry Unicorn Queen
Antique French Carved Walnut Fireside Dining Arm Chair Tapestry Needlepoint Unicorn & Lady
~Direct from France~
~Here's an absolutely stunning antique French 'fireside' or "throne" arm chair, a beautiful “fauteuil”!~
~Great as a focal point, excellent as an arm chair at the “head of the table” and also wonderful for a reading chair~
~Needlework is beautiful on BOTH the upper and lower chair ~
NOTE THE SCENE…depicting one of a series of six historical tapestries entitled “THE LADY AND THE UNICORN”, which represented each of the six senses.
THIS needlework is the scene that represents the sense of HEARING. Notice the lady is playing a portable organ on top of a table covered with an oriental rug. Her maidservant stands opposite and operates the bellows. As in all the tapestries, the lion and unicorn frame the scene holding up pennants.
(and of course the lion stands for England and the unicorn for Scotland) GREAT provenance & what a conversation piece!
~Sweeping carved arms and armrests, flared for ease of access~
~Substantial lower chair with ornate French carved apron, legs and stretchers.~
~Oversize brass tacks around the edges~
~~Well built by craftsmen of the period~
~VERY HEAVY and SUBSTANTIAL~
Don't miss an opportunity here, as this is something you can go for YEARS looking for another one.

This chair is in good condition for its age, with normal signs of age and use, dings, scratches, and other imperfections. The frame is sturdy; needlework is amazing to me, the coloring is lovely, I’m sure it has some wear and pulls as expected over time, but I’d have to give it an A+ rating, it’s gorgeous.
Looking at the underneath, the springs seem to have been re-tied—they are tight, firm & good for another 100 years! I always provide multiple photos that should be considered as an integral part of the description and I encourage you to email me with any questions you might have prior to bidding. Please keep in mind antique furniture should be purchased for its uniqueness, higher quality material and craftsmanship and antique patina, charm and character….NOT for like-new condition!!!
I also invite you to take a minute to visit my online store, Geaux Vintage Antiques, to see more English and European antique furniture, barley twist items, beveled mirrors, wall shelves, and many other unique and personally selected pieces for your home or office décor!
…”with all that, why Geaux anywhere else?”…
