Antique English Platter Drainer Staffordshire Blue Transferware Plateau Minton c1862

~Direct from England~

~A lovely antique English meat drainer…have you EVER seen one?  We discovered these many years ago, and are always “on the hunt” for them when in Europe.  They are perfectly suited to use on the wall (as you would platters, or mixed with platters) OR to use in a stand.  Certainly a very elegant European touch and always a conversation piece!~

Here’s a bit of history about strainers/drainers:

Somewhere in the early 1800’s, dinner sets would include a “drainer” or what was also called a “mezzanine”.  Typically flat, with a hole in the center and smaller holes all around it.  The drainer would fit inside a large serving platter or dish, and was used when serving meat/fish, to drain the juices below.

~Back is stamped with the pattern “Ribbon Wreath” and the mark “M & Co”, which is Minton. British registry mark on the back also reveals a date of 1861 (the “P” on the triangular mark).  Further, impressed Minton marks also on the back~

Measurements:

8.75” x 12” x  .5”.

THIS LISTING IS FOR ONE DRAINER ONLY.  THE OTHERS ARE SOLD SEPARATELY!!!
