19th century French Sideboard Server Buffet Hunt Cabinet Black Forest Oak Boar

$ 7,850.00

19th century French Sideboard Server Buffet Hunt Cabinet Black Forest Oak Boar .

Direct from a castle estate in France, this very large 19th century carved French sideboard hunt cabinet!  We recently purchased the entire contents of a gorgeous French estate, including this exception piece as well as several others that have just arrived!

Throughout this cabinet, the superb hand carvings reveal this was probably a commissioned piece, created for French aristocracy, in the 19th century.  In true “hunt cabinet” style, the ornate, baroque carvings reflect the “fruits of the hunt” with lower doors featuring carved medallions of pheasants/fowl on the left and fish on the right.  Note the exceptional details to the feathers, eyes, and dimensional accuracy of the bodies, and the delicate carved French ribbons and foliage surrounding them.

Lower doors are flanked by dimensional Black Forest carved fruits and foliate beneath oversized carved scrolls, with double drawers above.  The twin drawers have matching carved fronts, with carved foliage handles in the center of carved fruits.

The upper shelving and crown are a continuation of the lavish carved artwork, take a minute to consider the pediment!!  That’s a carved boar’s head to the center, surrounded by thick, carved scrolls and more Black Forest foliate.

The upper shelf supports are four dimensional carved serpents/griffins (look at details of the faces and even the feet); note both back panels are also elaborately carved.

Beautiful dark, aged patina; superb master carver designed details; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1880.
