19th century French Carved Oak Hall Bench Trunk Chest Renaissance Gothic Settle.
Direct from France, a massive antique French hall bench, with outstanding carvings!
Huge carved crown with sitting serpents on each end. Arched and shaped panels, all completely carved with foliate, scrolls, and serpents.
Gracefully sloped side arms terminate in very large carved lions on both sides.
Black Forest carved fruits below the carved lion mask on each side of the lower chest, with center panels having more carved foliate scrolls and a center lion mask.
Seat bench lifts to reveal large storage space inside.
Well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890.
60.5” ht.(5 ft ht) x 54.5” x 19.5”.
Approx. height of bench top is 18.5”.
